Apparently the Birdhouse House was a big thing a few decades back. These and their variations are all over the Valley (and, I’ve noticed, the Basin).
Apparently there are many “imitators,” but the originals were by a William Mellenthin Company, built in the 1950s. They tended to have a birdhouse over the garage. (That’s about all I have time to dredge up on the internet right now, but am curious to learn more.)
Another interesting trend: the Pagodatract.
