It’s been eight years since I watched the South Tower of the World Trade Center collapse, standing in the middle of Greene Street with my coworkers. The recent fires in the Angeles Forest have reminded me of its aftermath — their “pyrocumulous” clouds sending columns of dust and smoke high into the atmosphere. Weirdly, the only image I have of this is one that I took at Disneyland last week.

I wanted to share some pictures from my day today, which began around 9:30 when I met Madison in East Hollywood. We drove to West 12th Place, just on the edge of downtown, to pick up a shot for Thom’s new movie. The façade in question was across from a Korean furniture store, in a row of dusty industrial equipment shops.

Since I returned from Isle Royale — and have been walking around downtown more often — I’ve been paying closer attention to signs around the city. This one is on a bus stop and says in Spanish, “For those without borders.”

On my way home today, I stopped into REDCAT where they were setting up a new video installation in the gallery. They weren’t allowing visitors behind the curtain.

And finally, I had to take a photograph of this amazing sign in front of the Trader Joe’s in Eagle Rock. I talked to Edwin, who was collecting donations to repeal Proposition 8. I asked him if he would pose for me and he very kindly obliged.
